MANY THANKS FOR LOOKING!
MUCH MORE TO COME!
Oh man, I can’t remember for sure when I got this baby! 🙁 I got my other Rollei 35T before year 2002 (that’s what I marked in my books, but about this 35S I can’t find any note). But I do remember first I got the (used) Tessar, and after that this (also second-hand) Sonnar. Among the keen people, there has always been a big discussion between the Sonnar and Tessar Rollei 35 lenses in these small, and actually pocket-size cameras.
What is clearly the case is that the Sonnar has F2.8 and the Tessar F3.5. Does that matter? Well.. at least the Sonnar typically costs a lot more than the Tessar. The majority says that Tessar has higher contrast and the Sonnar better resolution. Which one one usually prefers is, I guess, a matter of taste, the photo/subject itself, the film used, illumination (and Illuminati), the sauce, the soup, the beef, the position of the Moon and the Sun and whatnot. 🙂
Yes, I am not going into there more. It has always been difficult for me to choose (like which Texas Leica to choose), so I got them all. Needless to say, I got both the Tessar and Sonnar Rollei models.
I loved these cameras for one thing about all: their compact size. It is one of the smallest camera in the world that eats normal 135 format (35 mm) film. You’d think you need to be a spy or something in order to get really good quality equipment. Well, Minox was (/is ?) just about that, but for these Rollei cameras I don’t know.
These Rollei cameras have one thing in common: the distance setting is to be done by approximation, as usually one would not carry an apparatus to measure the distance to the target (subject). There is no system in the camera that would give you feedback of the actual focus of the image on the film plate. To avoid out-of-focus problems, the best solution is to focus into infinity.
The camera has also a light meter that runs with a very special battery and it is not connected to the shutter. This means that the camera is fully manual.
I used this camera mainly to take landscape photos (most slides!) in places where I did not have a bigger camera at hands and for that purpose the camera was just perfect. 🙂
I’d say that this camera is also great for the one who likes to do experimental photography (type LOMO or HOLGA, for example) with, say, expired film. The downside (besides the focusing, of course) is it price.
Yes, according to my standards I have used this camera not that much, which you can see from the photos. I would say it is more or less in the same condition as once I got it. I tested this camera on February 2016, and I found no problem with it except the difficulty of approximating the correct distance. The real problem is with me, and that is the reason I’m selling it.
I am no camera selling professional and am not officially qualified to judge the condition of this camera. I have checked the camera and I haven’t noted anything in malfunction. Cosmetically it is as you see from the photos. Although one screw from the back is missing, I have marked it excellent condition.
This camera comes with an UV filter and the original strap. I am selling this camera in auction, starting 1 euros, with reserve and buy it now 300 euros, shipping only to be done fully insured, local pickup and testing welcome.
Remember if you buy outside EU and you are in EU, you need to pay customs tax (typically ca. 5 %) and VAT (typically around 20 – 25 %) which are added on top of shipping and insurance costs. To my understanding, these costs are calculated and due regardless of the age and condition of the item! There are calculators on-line for this, like from Pitney Bowes.
Yes, of course I will combine shipping for reduced shipping costs. I urge you to my buy more from me and will be flexible with it. Please note the somewhat expensive shipping costs from Finland, especially if insurance is needed. If the value of order gets to a higher level, I insist on taken an insurance for the shipping.
If you have more questions, please contact me directly.
