I got this film from a professional photo guy in Helsinki Finland early 2009, I think. It was kept in a cool storage (15 degrees Celsius or colder), I think. I kept ALL my films until July 2014 in deep fridge (at least -18 degrees Celsius) basically from the moment I got them. Then, as my company moved to a new location I had no more enough deep freeze place for all my films, like these sheets. Inside, where the films have been stored, the room temperature has been ca. + 3 .. 10 degrees Celsius during wintertime (ca. November – April) and ca. + 10 .. 17 degrees Celsius at other times. During January – May 2016 ALL films were well covered outside at ca. -33 .. + 10 degrees Celsius and after that time I moved all my films inside (temperatures as above). Usually, slide film can be used long after its expiry date, especially if the film has been kept in deep freeze.
I have used quite a lot of different slide films, also this type. My main aim was, as I was shooting for myself, was to get film cheap (I have shot quite a lot), so I was no so picky what to use, especially if it was intended for professionals.
The VS stands for vivid saturation, but I didn’t find it so much to be the usual case. Instead, I noted the biggest difference with Kodak Ektachrome 100 SW, which was really warm saturated that I loved in taking in the southern hemisphere (South America) with strong sunlight, as well as the Velvia 50.
Kodak announced to discontinue the manufacture of its ALL EKTA/ELITECROME SLIDE films in 2012, though they still have the specifications available on-line.
I have kept this film unopened in the sealed bulky cardboard box in deep freezer for years. THIS particular set of filmsI tested February 2016 hence open box) to work ok. I am selling this box in auction, starting 15 euros, with reserve and buy it now 27 euros.
So go ahead, grab yourself these films while the stock lasts – these films are no longer produced! 🙂
