MUCH MORE TO COME!

According to my books, I bought this lens from a professional photo store (Foto Neithold) on 22. 11. 2003 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Slowly, I am coming to remembering this. It seems my age has not only caused my vision and a study place go bad, but my memory as well. It is a real shame I can’t remember all the things I have done in my life with the speed of light(ning). 🙁

This is the last Leica Leitz lens of my own that I have for sale, and based on the acquire date above, I do have my memories confused. Which Leica body I did get the first and so forth? I vaguely remember that I did rather plenty of photo gear trading in 2003  /2004 with professional photo equipment sellers, as I was getting my first large format camera for my Provia 100 4×5″ QL films to shoot with. Oh man, it was a serious hassle and I did lose money as well. Not all the sellers with brick and mortal shops were honest. Nowadays, the risk is even more pronounced with remote (internet) sales. I feel you, if you doubt my selling. Perhaps the matter that all my information is open to all and the public will help a little?

Considering the size and weight of typical Leica bodies, this lens is rather on the large scale but comparing it to a Canon (or Nikon) equivalent.. it’s like a miniature thing, and you’re not likely to get “lucky” with this thing, I suppose. Or perhaps you will, as many do know the cost of the mark “Leica”? 😉

The serial number 2189973 puts this lens to the early years of the manufacturing history, to the year 1966 according to this wiki site, with 1999 friends per that year and in total 28300 between 1964 – 1995. It has been branded as “135mm f/4 Tele-Elmar (SFK)”, which were only 8500 made between the years 1966 to 1969. Now, I would call that somewhat rare, or would you? I wouldn’t have ever guessed this lens to be 50 years old. Not based on its design or on its condition and outward appearance.

Mr. Ken Rockwell states that the LEICA TELE-ELMAR 135mm f/4 1965-1990 is a superb lens and with is updated design “this older lens is a top pick for fabulous optics in a smaller, lighter package for less money”. However, again as with the 90 mm lens, these telelenses do require for perfect functioning (focus) that your rangefinder camera body is calibrated accordingly. Of course, there is information in the net how to do this yourself, even.

This is a great lens, what else would you expect from Leica, and especially made in Germany? I am not the only one to say this, though these reviews are bit less than those available for the shorter tubes Leica has made.

I can’t say that I would have used this lens a lot. I am not great telephotographer. Most often, I wish to see more than my eyes can see. Not longer, but wider. But I wouldn’t dare to have a camera, which with I couldn’t take shots with a longer view when needed. Would you?

This lens is a for M mount Leica rangefinder camera that means you need to focus manually the image using your eyes, matching the small images into parallel in the camera’s viewfinder. If you have a bad vision, and you want to use this lens for taking good shots, you should not buy this camera part. If you love cameras, have money and are a collector, then perhaps. 😉 If I was a camera collector, I would never sell this lens, but as I am not and have now certifiably bad vision, so here you go, and I cry. 🙁

I tested my Leica M4P on February 2016, but not this lens, sorry. I would still be testing all my gear, I would do that for all my camera gear I have. :/

I am no camera selling professional and am not officially qualified to judge the condition of this lens. I have checked the lens and I haven’t noted anything in malfunction. If you desire, and I can send you more / higher resolution photos per email. Cosmetically, it is as you see from the photos. I have marked it excellent condition, and this is my personal opinion.

With utmost reluctance I am selling this great and desired lens, buy it now 800 euros, shipping only to be done fully insured, local pickup, testing and reasonable offers welcome.

Remember if you buy outside EU and you are in EU, you need to pay customs tax (typically ca. 5 %) and VAT (typically around 20 – 25 %) which are added on top of shipping and insurance costs. To my understanding, these costs are calculated and due regardless of the age and condition of the item! There are calculators on-line for this, like from Pitney Bowes.

Yes, of course, I will combine shipping for reduced shipping costs. I urge you to my buy more from me and will be flexible with it. Please note the somewhat expensive shipping costs from Finland, especially if insurance is needed. If the value of order gets to a higher level, I insist on taken an insurance for the shipping.

If you have more questions, please contact me directly.
