The year 2004 was quite busy for me indeed. January 30th I got my first Leica, M4P which was love at first sight. I got a silver Leica Wetzlar f=5cm F2.8 lens at the same, second hand of course, with this lens. Or did I? Hell, it’s been a long time, and I got that time also camera stuff by trading (as the professional sellers didn’t want to give my money back 🙁 ).

Based on these photos and many others elsewhere in the net, I have deducted that this lens is the Type 4 Bokeh King, which is pretty famous among true Leica fans. Yes, you deducted correctly: I am not a true leicaphilea or whatnot, I am / have been a Leica user.

Based on Ken Rockwell, the lens was made between 1979 – 1996. It was made in Canada and there is no serial number marked because of the “Made in Canada” text. I guess that sets the priorities straight, right? 😉 Oh, sorry me, the serial is behind the aperture ring: 3356544. Based on the information given in the above links, this piece was made at the halfway (of the serials, and if their manufacturing rate was more or less constant), around mid 1980s.

I can say that I have used this lens, indeed. It was (and is) one of my favorite lenses in my Leica bodies: pretty fast, excellent optics and wide enough for almost anything and not that wiiiiiiiide to cause any funny business. Yes, I have a 17 mm Russian made with adaptor for my Canon EOS that I used a lot while shooting film, but sometimes the curvature in the photos was just too much. Never does that happen on a 35 mm (lens) on a 35 mm (camera). 😉

I am perhaps not the best person to praise this lens neither, and based on its typical prices on the street I would need not, either. Well, here is one review, just for fun. 🙂

This lens is a for M mount Leica rangefinder camera that means you need to focus manually the image using your eyes, matching the small images into parallel in the camera’s viewfinder.

If you have a bad vision, and you want to use this lens for taking good shots, you should not buy this camera part. If you love cameras, have money and are a collector, then perhaps. 😉 If I was a camera collector, I would never sell this lens, but as I am not and have now certifiably bad vision, so here you go, and I cry. 🙁

I tested my Leica M4P on February 2016 but not with this lens, sorry for that. I would still be testing all my gear, I would do that for all my camera gear I have. :/

I am no camera selling professional and am not officially qualified to judge the condition of this lens. I have visually checked the lens and I have noted that the aperture ring seems to be a bit loose, which at least my other Leica lenses do not demonstrate (because of this condition marked as Good, otherwise I would mark it as Excellent). Also, I don’t why nor when, but the concave plastic focusing tab that was attached to this lens before is now missing. Otherwise, I see nothing malfunctioning in this lens. The dust in the photos appears to be on top of the lens, I think. If you desire, and I check this properly again and send you more / higher resolution photos per email. Cosmetically, it is as you see from the photos. I have marked it good condition based on the above (without the focusing ring & tab dilemma, I would mark it as excellent). Most likely, if you would use this lens a lot, you would like to service / have it serviced. I reckon that this might cost here in Finland around 200 – 300 euros (just is a wild guess) and in US 200 – 300 dollars and elsewhere perhaps less, go figure.

With utmost reluctance I am selling this great and desired lens, buy it now 2000 euros, shipping only to be done fully insured, local pickup, testing and reasonable offers welcome.

Remember if you buy outside EU and you are in EU, you need to pay customs tax (typically ca. 5 %) and VAT (typically around 20 – 25 %) which are added on top of shipping and insurance costs. To my understanding, these costs are calculated and due regardless of the age and condition of the item! There are calculators on-line for this, like from Pitney Bowes.

Yes, of course, I will combine shipping for reduced shipping costs. I urge you to my buy more from me and will be flexible with it. Please note the somewhat expensive shipping costs from Finland, especially if insurance is needed. If the value of order gets to a higher level, I insist on taken an insurance for the shipping.
