I wrote that three times (no copy and paste). If I was to pick only one camera, from those dozens I have and have had, this is the one I would.
Why? Because I just love the panoramic format (here 24×65 mm) photos, and would you also not by looking at these great photos (not mine 🙁 )? Oh man, yes, now I remember taking panoramic shots, no rolls, from the Eiffel Tower and elsewhere in Paris.. in 2004, with my parents (go figure that!) 🙂
I also love the way of using a large(r) film area that allows more true resolution to the enlargements. Well scanned and post processed, you can make perfect prints (or I do that for you!) sized ca. 44×118 cm2 = 16 x 44″ with an 44″ wide printer. Of course, you could make much larger as well (depending on film etc.), but as I was making actively prints from this camera I only had a Epson 9600. I remember taking those photos in the middle of France as I literally Lost, as I had taken the wrong train back to Grez-sur-Loing, and had to wait for the first train the whole night. Needless to say, I made my best photos during my whole six months stay in the Hotel Chevillion residence during that night, regardless of my sleep deprivation, hunger and freezing temperature. I suppose that is how Artist at Work do, at least I have done, while searching for my Freedom, and that is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the Naked Truth, so help me God is that it? 😉
If you are lost in the middle of nowhere, you want at least your camera to run perfectly, and so this Dreamcamera of mine has always done since the day I got from a professional camera store in Kyoto 2004. Yes, my conference trip was not a total waste after all, as I (train and bus) travelled around the country with this (at that time mint condition) Xpan, Leicas and hmm.. what else did I have to shoot that kirei desu sakura, as the half of the cameramen in Japan. 🙂
There is only one negative thing in the camera (nobody is perfect) – it uses a battery (not cheap). But then you have everything running sweet and sound. And yes, it not a bug, it is a feature: the film gets first rolled to the end – you need to be very careful in setting the film inside, and then as you shoot the roll is winded back to the inside of the film can. I do wonder what was this great idea with the Japanese engineers who made this, but there you go. Oh, it was because that way you can then switch on-the-fly between the normal 135 (24×36 mm) format and the panoramic (24×65 mm) format (which is great!), I read from here. Well, I’m an engineer with masters and a funny high hat, but not in mechanics, so please allow me to still wonder is this really the one way to build such as function? :-/
This is a rangefinder camera that means you need to focus manually the image using your eyes, matching the small images into parallel in the view finder. If you have bad vision, and you want to use this camera for taking good shots, you should not buy this camera. If you love cameras, have money and are a collector, then perhaps. 😉 If I was a camera collector, I would never sell this camera, but as I am not and have now certifiably bad vision, so here you go, and I cry. 🙁
The funny thing is that this is the only Hasselblad camera I have ever had and even used, and that this is actually no Hasselblad. It is, of course, Fuji made, with a Hasselblad sticker on top, which then makes the machine more expensive, haha. Is it not great how the world of ours works? This was sarcasm, but no pun intended. 🙂
Yes, this is very expensive set and you better read everything you can find from this camera, not only those reviews I have linked in this ad.
This camera is great for everything you want to do with 35 mm film. Do Lomo panoramic photography, and your first row seat will always be taken, guaranteed because of the non-typical image ratio, add to that experimenting with expired film and crossing film development, and you are gonna get all the art grants there is! 🙂 Oh fuck, I should be doing this. Say, if I don’t this sold (with at least my reserve price), I am gonna do that! 😉
Yes, according to my standards I have used somewhat this camera, which you can see from the photos. I would say it is no longer in the mint condition as I bought it. I tested this camera on February 2016, and I found no problem with it. I used a single roll of expired Kodak Ektachrome E100GX 135 that run before this camera in four other cameras, and still the film and camera run like a charm. The only problem was with my vision, and that is the only reason I’m selling this fine piece of equipment.
I am no camera selling professional and am not officially qualified to judge the condition of this camera. I have checked the camera and I haven’t noted anything in malfunction. The dust in the photos appears to be on top of the lens, I think. If you desire, and I check this properly again and send you more / higher resolution photos per email. Cosmetically, it is as you see from the photos. I have marked it excellent condition, as stating it “near mint” could be, I believe, be too much, although in eBay there might be many to state that.
This camera comes with two lenses (45mm F4 and 90mm F4), the original strap, Fuji Xpan marked leather carrying case, lens hood, original boxes, manuals etc. you can see in the photos. If I can find the two (used, old, but working) lithium batteries I used for testing the camera, you’ll get those as well.
With utmost reluctance I am selling this somewhat rare camera buy it now 6000 euros, shipping only to be done fully insured, local pickup, testing and reasonable offers welcome.
Remember if you buy outside EU and you are in EU, you need to pay customs tax (typically ca. 5 %) and VAT (typically around 20 – 25 %) which are added on top of shipping and insurance costs. To my understanding, these costs are calculated and due regardless of the age and condition of the item! There are calculators on-line for this, like from Pitney Bowes.
Yes, of course, I will combine shipping for reduced shipping costs. I urge you to my buy more from me and will be flexible with it. Please note the somewhat expensive shipping costs from Finland, especially if insurance is needed. If the value of order gets to a higher level, I insist on taken an insurance for the shipping.
