The transfer function determines completely the behavior of an audio system that is supposed to be linear and time-invariant (LTI). In this paper the underlying theory of general LTI systems is shown, followed by the presentation of some commonly used stimuli for signal analysis, which is discussed from the standpoints of audio system analysis and measurements. The classification of measurement systems is introduced with some commercially available examples. Practical considerations of limitations and errors with suggestions to measurement enhancements are given at the end.
